How much Kool-Aid do you have to drink?

How much Kool-Aid do you have to drink before you come up with a slogan like:

Carbon Dioxyde: they call it pollution, we call it life.

No, it’s not a joke. We breathe out the carbon dioxyde, and plants breathe it in, so obviously it can’t be bad for us, right?

Notice one important detail in the first ad: they say “we need carbon dioxyde […] to grow our foods.” That’s fascinating, and it’s easy to miss. What they’re referring to is all the artificial fertilizers we use in this country to grow more corn, still more corn, and oh yeah soybean. Our farms, which used to convert solar energy into food, now convert oil into food (cause, hey, that’s where the fertilizer’s from.) This and much much more fascinating stuff in Michael Pollan’s new book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, which I strongly recommend.
